We are sorry to report that there will be no program for the summer of 2011. We intend to return for the 2012 season, so please check back for more information then. In the meantime, below is some information from the previous season. Thank you for your interest in Stone’s Throw CSA.
What is a Share?
Stone’s Throw CSA members pick up vegetable shares once a week for 18 weeks from mid June to October. We are offering one size share this year, and we encourage those who need a smaller amount of produce to split a share with a friend or family member, or to contact us to find another member interested in splitting a share.
Shares cost $580, which includes a $30 membership fee, and are based on an average of $30 worth of organic produce weekly (using 2009 summer prices). Of course, since plants grow in relation to the sun, the amount and variety of produce will follow the bell curve of the sun’s growing capacity from early summer to early fall. We are planning to plant over 25 crops for 2009, and we will give you a variety of fresh vegetables each week, along with recipes and tips on how to cook them.
Strawberries, peas, beans and cherry tomatoes will be offered on a pick-your-own basis this summer. This will allow shares to contain more since the labor of harvesting these crops adds significantly to the cost. Shareholders who are not able to pick their own vegetables due to physical issues will be assisted by other shareholders so they don’t miss out on the full harvest. The PYO portion of the share can be picked any day of the week.
Working together
Stone’s Throw CSA is a community of people working towards the common goal of beautiful sustainable food. To that end, members commit to a work contribution of 10 hours per share in the running of the CSA. Work opportunities can vary from helping in the field to assisting with distribution to collecting recipes for the newsletter. Members can put in their hours all at once or over the season. Members unable to meet their work commitment can make a donation of $80 to have someone else hired to fulfill their commitment.
Pick up Days
Members will pick up their shares on either Tuesday or Saturday between 3 and 6 pm at Silvermine Farm in Sutton, MA. Shares not picked up will be donated to a local food bank. Members will also have the opportunity to purchase additional items at the pickup site, including chickens, turkeys, eggs, fruit, herbs and honey produced by area farmers.
Reserve Your Share!
Please see our FAQ section for more information. Shares are limited, so to reserve a place in Stone’s Throw CSA for the 2010 season, please mail in the registration form as soon as possible.
